To All Waggener Alumni:
Over 250 graduating seniors were recently awarded high school diplomas in the 65th graduation ceremony of Waggener High School. Prior to the graduation, Waggener celebrated Honors Day in the new gym. Students were recognized for certificates of achievement and financial scholarships. Through the generosity of you and your classmates, the WHS Alumni Association was able to offer financial scholarships to 7 deserving seniors in the amount of $750 each. Nancy Goetzman Donovan and Barbara Derr Henderson have been friends since birth and now live within 15 miles of each other near the New England coast. They celebrate each other's birthday. This year to commemorate their 80th birthdays they enjoyed a delightful meal at a famous restaurant Pickity Place. Built in the 1700s the building served as the inspiration for Little Red Riding Hood. The gardens are lovely and lush for their fun-filled and adventurous day. See photos.
Emma Borders (Class of 1963) is now serving on the Waggener High School Alumni Association (WHSAA) Board. Emma taught junior high school for 12 years, and then ran a local video production company, Copycat Video. She has been very active helping to organize every Reunion for her class, and wanted to offer those organization skills to a broader WHS audience.
Great things going on in our life from Terry and Joan Ogle 2/13/25: This is our way of giving back! Well for Joan and I, for the last 9 years we have been volunteering at the nearby National Naval Aviation Museum. We have accumulated over 1,000 hours of volunteer time. Joan works in the area called Homefront which is a section dedicated to 1943 Pensacola during WWII. She explains the war time rationing and family participation with blue star and gold star program. As a Naval Aviator serving in a helicopter combat squadron, I conduct the floor tour which I walk through 150 different aircraft and explain the ddevelopment of Naval Aviation through the stories of Naval Aviators beginning with the Wright Brothers in 1903, covering WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the fall of Saigon in 1975. My tours last 3 hours and last week I started with 70 visitors. It is always good to rehearse the works of our military particularly navy pilots flying off of ships over water that protect our way of life against all enemies - I tell their stories of courage and sacrifice! By the way our two sons were Navy pilots and now fly for Southwest and we have a grandson who is a Marine helicopter pilot now returning from his first deployment in Japan. Maybe if you ever come to Pensacola, I would be happy to give you and your friends a private tour! Terry Ogle.
60th Reunion June 9th-11th, 2023.
