James Tandy High Obituary

James Tandy High, a beacon of love and adventure, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 79 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Born on August 7, 1945, in Louisville, Kentucky, James was a man whose spirit danced with the vibrancy of life and whose presence was a gift to all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clay Ellis High; Daughter, Carrie Marie High Wittekind (Adam).

From the rolling green hills of Kentucky to the quiet, scenic landscapes of Indiana, James's journey was marked by a ceaseless pursuit of excellence and joy. A proud graduate of Waggener High School, he carried the determination and discipline he learned there into his studies at Vanderbilt University. As a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, he forged bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie that lasted a lifetime.

James's professional path as a stockbroker and investment counselor was characterized by his integrity and foresight. His astute mind and compassionate heart made him a trusted advisor at Almstead and Prudential. He took great pride in guiding his clients toward prosperous futures, always with a sense of responsibility and the warmest of smiles.

Behind the success and accolades, James was a man deeply rooted in his love for family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 27 years, Gigi McKnight-High, a loving father to his daughter, Morgan Tandy High Orgain (married to Robert), and a doting grandfather to Charlee Shockley, Maury Francis, Mada, and Andrew Wittekind. His sister, Ellessa High, and brother, Kenneth High, along with his nephew, Clay Johnson, were integral threads in the rich tapestry of his life.

James's zest for life was mirrored in his diverse interests. A Boy Scout in his youth, he embodied the organization's values long after he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the tender age of 13. His affiliation with the Order of the Arrow was a testament to his commitment to community and leadership. Beyond his civic engagements, James was an artist at heart. His talents as a painter, poet, and writer were outlets for his profound creativity and his garden was a living canvas that showcased his connection to the earth and its beauty.

To know James was to know a man of loving nature, an adventurous soul who never shied away from life's challenges, and a spirited individual who could light up a room with his infectious enthusiasm. He lived not just to exist, but to experience, to appreciate, and to inspire. James's legacy is not simply in the accomplishments he achieved, but in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the unwavering positivity he radiated.

As we celebrate the remarkable life of James Tandy High, let us remember the lessons he imparted through his actions and his words. Let us strive to approach each day with the same loving kindness, to seek out new horizons with the same boundless spirit, and to nurture the world around us with the same fervent passion. James's memory will continue to motivate us to live fully, to love deeply, and to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those we encounter.

Though we bid farewell to James, his spirit remains an unextinguished light, guiding us through our own journeys. His was a life well-lived, a narrative of joy and generosity that will echo through the generations. James Tandy High, your story is one of triumph, of beauty, and of the indomitable human spirit.
